Brief Description Of Our Organization
Who Are We?
Board of lectors is the liturgical ministry saddled with the responsibility of taking 1st and 2nd readings (compulsorily) at mass and other readings during the liturgy. We thereby, assist the church in its ministry of evangelization.
We meet every Saturday by 5pm beside the entrance to the Sacristy for our rehearsals and meetings.
While our Parish patron saint is St. Jerome (30th September), our Archdiocesan Patron Saints are Ss Peter and Paul (29th June).

MEMBERSHIP STRENGTH
The board of lectors in St. Hilda has about 55 members.
However, most of them are currently in the university, others are below 18years and there are just about 8 active adult members.
TOTAL NUMBER OF ACTIVE MEMBERS: There are about 30 active members (this includes children and adults).
Membership Welfare
Achievements.
Considering the fact that most members are children, we try as much as possible to not only finish rehearsals in good time, but also ensure the children vacate the premises to their various destinations before the adults leave.
We put calls across to our children in higher institutions, to know how they are faring.
We visit members who put to bed, who are bereaved and also commemorate birthdays of members.
1-We took delivery of 12 sets of brand new robes of different sizes within the time in focus (courtesy of our supportive Parish Priest).
2- To the Glory of God, we have increased in numerical strength (adult and children alike).
The love feast in commemoration of our patron saint’s feast day this year was the first of its kind

1-January: Deanery beginning of the year prayers and thanksgiving
2-February 18th: ADC Lenten Retreat
3-May: Refresher courses for parish old/new lectors
4-July 1st: ADC Patron Saints’ feast day celebration
5-September 27th -29th: Novena to Parish’s board of lectors Patron Saint (St. Jerome).
6-September 30th: Patron Saint’s feast day celebration
7-October 1st: Feast day celebration thanksgiving
-Family harvest thanksgiving
8-December 3rd: Parish and Deanery end of the year party.
FUTURE PROGRAMMES
1-Preparations for the festival of lessons and Christmas carols are in progress
2-Leadership workshop in the 1st quarter of the year 2024 which may run concurrently with a workshop on Lectors as a Ministry.

Challenges And Way Forward
1-Shortage of adult members is a major challenge we face in the board.
2-The shortage of adult members has placed more financial burden on the few adult members who strife to ensure that the board meets up with its financial demands not just at the deanery level but also at the parish level without taxing the children.
3-Space Constraints: considering the time of our meetings, we barely manage to hear ourselves during rehearsals because noise pollution from Catechism children, charismatics, choir etc is sometimes inevitable.
Way Forward
The drive geared towards ensuring the full reactivation of dormant members will be increased forthwith.
