Catholic Charismatic Renewal Jesus Victory Prayer Group

Brief Description Of Our Organization

Who Are We?

The Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) in Nigeria is a vibrant and influential movement within the Catholic Church. It is a spiritual movement that emphasizes the availability and importance of the power, fruit and gifts of the Holy Spirit in the life of every Christian. The CCR in Nigeria, as in many other parts of the world, seeks to bring a renewal of faith and enthusiasm to the Catholic Church through the charismatic gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking/praying in tongues, healing, teaching, prophecy etc. While the CCR emphasizes charismatic experiences, it operates within the framework of Catholic theology and doctrine.

Origin and Growth:

The Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Nigeria started in the early 1970s, following the pattern of the larger Charismatic Renewal movement within the global Christian community.

The movement quickly gained momentum and spread throughout the country, finding a receptive audience among Catholics who were seeking a more experiential and charismatic dimension to their faith.

Charismatic Prayer Meetings:

One of the hallmarks of the CCR in Nigeria is the regular charismatic prayer meetings held in Catholic parishes and communities. These meetings are characterized by lively worship, charismatic expressions of faith, and the exercise of spiritual gifts. Here in St. Hilda Odadore, Our Prayer meetings hold every Tuesday by 7:00PM.

Impact on the Church:

The CCR has had a significant impact on the Catholic Church in Nigeria, bringing a renewed emphasis on personal faith, evangelization, and outreach.

Many Catholics in the charismatic movement are actively involved in evangelistic activities, both within the Church and in society, often organizing crusades, revivals, healing/praise and worship prayer meetings, and outreach programs.

Challenges And Way Forward

1-Space: to accommodate our ministries to possibly hold their meetings in one day instead of several days as earlier stated. We are also in want of pace to safely keep and preserve our community gargets (Band, PAS, etc).

2-Finance: to effectively take care of the many financial responsibilities of the community and her members.

3-Undue Generalization: when people tend to use one or two CCR member’s questionable actions or inactions to characterize every other member of the renewal.

Way Forward

We hereby humbly solicit the swift intervention and unreserved assistance of the Laity to remedy the above stated challenges while we do our best possible to as well figure out favourable solutions.
